UPPER EAST SIDE LOFT

  • This project is a 2 bedroom apartment in a Landmarked building in the Upper East Side. The Vanderbilts originally funded the building in 1909 to serve as a model tenement and sanatorium for tuberculosis patients and their families. Light and ventilation were given priority in the design, with full height, triple hung windows throughout. In addition, each window opens onto a private terrace with views of John Jay Park and the East River.

After the Great Depression, the building sanatorium was too expensive to operate and it was converted to apartments and later to a co-op. This renovation combines two adjacent 1 bedroom units into an efficient and flexible 2BR + Office for a growing family.
